Terry Fox Run – Maple Bear Katowice Runs for Hope!
On October 18, 2025, the community of Maple Bear Katowice – Private Primary School and Preschool will take part for the first time in the Terry Fox Run, a global charity initiative supporting the fight against cancer.
What is the Terry Fox Run?
The Terry Fox School Run is not just a sporting event, but above all, a tribute to the courage and determination of Terry Fox – whose story is simple yet powerful. Terry Fox lost his leg to osteosarcoma at age 18, underwent 16 months of treatment, and could not ignore the suffering he witnessed in cancer wards. Terry decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research in the Marathon of Hope. On September 1, after 143 days and 5,373 kilometers, Terry was forced to stop running: cancer had spread to his lungs. His indomitable spirit and commitment continue to inspire millions around the world and set a wonderful example for children.
Maple Bear Global Schools partners with the Terry Fox Foundation and the Fox family to organize events and fundraising campaigns for cancer research, encouraging students and their families to actively participate in charitable initiatives. Polish Maple Bear schools in Krakow and Katowice are joining this wonderful initiative for the first time this year. They will run on the same dates alongside their peers in Sofia and Plovdiv, Bulgaria, where over 500 participants are expected. Maple Bear schools in Brno, Czech Republic, and Kyiv, Ukraine, also participate in this event each year.
In Katowice we run not only symbolically and giving our effort, but we are also truly supporting children fighting cancer.
Route – “ParkRun” in Kościuszko Park
We’ll be running along the “ParkRun” route – 2.5 km long – perfect for both runners and walkers.
It’s not about the time or pace – it’s about participation and coming together for a cause.
For our youngest participants, we have prepared a shorter loop around the Kościuszko Monument, so every child can take part and enjoy the atmosphere of the event.
Maple Bear Katowice for the ISKIERKA Foundation
This year’s run in Katowice supports the ISKIERKA Foundation, which for many years has been helping children with cancer and their families.
The foundation has launched a special online fundraiser, which you can already join – and during the event, it will also be possible to contribute in person.
Every zloty and every step counts – together we can do more!

The Terry Fox School Run, organized by Maple Bear Katowice, is a unique initiative that combines education, sport, and charity. This event embodies the core Canadian values of perseverance and social responsibility, while teaching students the importance of giving back to the community and demonstrating that one person can truly make a difference. Together, we can support cancer research and inspire a future where no one faces cancer alone.
We invite all students, parents, teachers and friends of the school to run together and support this beautiful idea. Register, donate any amount and run “no matter what” – because every step counts!
TERRY FOX STARTED A MARATHON AGAINST CANCER. TOGETHER WE CAN FINISH IT.
